What’s the difference between kicking a ball into a net and scoring a goal? As researchers, we often find ourselves at the crossroads of explaining the steps that are needed to complete a task (and any potential issues along the way) and the actual experience of what it feels like to complete that task. For those playing soccer, scoring a goal is a much more evocative—and more emotionally complete—description than kicking a ball into a net. This talk will weave together methodologies from the fields of anthropology and performance studies to help researchers go deeper in their understandings and ultimately uncover richer and more actionable insights for their teams and stakeholders.
